SAROA is excited to announce that due to the generosity of Cornerstone and Sun Studs, we will be able to auction services to both Valentia and Fiorente at our upcoming Horses’ Birthday Lunch. The lunch is our main fundraiser for the year and part proceeds from the event will go to the National Jockeys Trust.
Valentia is a first season sire by Fastnet Rock and stands at Cornerstone for $11,000.

Fiorente should be well known to everyone as a recent Melbourne Cup winner. He stands at Sun Stud for $17,600

We are hoping to secure one or two more stallion services for auction on the day. Just another reason why you should attend our Horses’ Birthday Lunch on Friday July 29.
SAROA is delighted to advise that we have secured two great speakers for our Horses’ Birthday lunch. We are excited to welcome recently retired NSW Chief Steward Ray Murrihy as our main speaker, Ray served New South Wales racing with distinction for more than 40 years. We know that Ray will have some fascinating stories to share with us and those who have met Ray will agree, we are sure, that we are indeed lucky to have him join us on July 29th.
While from a very different end of the racing spectrum, we are sure that our second speaker will also provide an enthralling view of the transition from struggling to get a ride in her home country Ireland to becoming a leading apprentice here in Adelaide. We are of course referring to Emily Finnegan.
So we suggest you add Friday July 29th to your diaries and be prepared for a great lunch to celebrate our horses’ birthdays.

Owners Contributions to racing in Australia (Luke Koumi).
You may find it interesting
In the table below Punters would appear to generate income for racing of about $93 million a year.
That $93 million a year is spent on running racing ($58 million) and whatever is left over is used for prize-money ($35 million)
Owners spend about $65 million a year but net about $30 million in prize-money (after $5 million goes to trainers and jockeys) .
Therefore Owners contribute $35 million a year to the operation of racing.
If we add in the cost of purchasing our horses then the figure probably grows to $40 million.
Doesn’t that earn us a big say in the operation of racing?
