For a number of years SAROA have presented an award each year to the Apprentice who has done that bit extra for owners. Recent winners include Maggie Collett; Jade Doyle; Teagan Voorham, Lizzie Annels and Sophie Logan.

SAROA Apprentice ‘Above and Beyond’ Award
The SAROA Apprentice ‘Above and Beyond’ Award is awarded annually at the
Racing SA Apprentice Academy 


Overview
The Award recognises an apprentice jockey who demonstrates an outstanding
commitment to go ‘above and beyond’ to enhance the owner’s experience and/or the
performance of a horse.


Eligibility
All licensed apprentices in South Australia during the nomination period are eligible
for the award. With the voting period running from January 01 to December 31 in any
given year.


Nominations
The SAROA Committee will call for nominations from its membership base and
establish the timing and mechanism for nominations to be submitted.
Nominees must be proposed in writing to by a member of SAROA and include
identification of one or more of the ‘Award Criteria’ as set out below.


Award Criteria
The final decision on the successful recipient will be made by the SAROA
Committee. 
The SAROA Committee will have regard to one or more of the following Award
Criteria:

  1. Putting in extra work with a horse or horses who need that to perform their
    best or for their well-being;
  2. Good communication with owners;
  3. Demonstrating a commitment to their profession despite setbacks or
    challenges;
  4. Demonstrating a commitment to equine welfare;
  5. Demonstrating leadership and/or sportsmanship; and/or
  6. Any other particular circumstances that the nominator considers relevant to
    the nomination.
    Additional weight may be given to multiple examples or sustained activity over the
    year where there is a direct benefit to the owners experience.
