In the table below Punters would appear to generate income for racing of about $93 million a year.
That $93 million a year is spent on running racing ($58 million) and whatever is left over is used for prize-money ($35 million)
Owners spend about $65 million a year but net about $30 million in prize-money (after $5 million goes to trainers and jockeys) .
Therefore Owners contribute $35 million a year to the operation of racing.
If we add in the cost of purchasing our horses then the figure probably grows to $40 million.
