Owners contribution to racing – An Article by Luke Koumi

Owners Contributions to racing in Australia (Luke Koumi).

You may find it interesting

In the table below Punters would appear to generate income for racing of about $93 million a year.

That $93 million a year is spent on running racing ($58 million) and whatever is left over is used for prize-money ($35 million)

Owners spend about $65 million a year but net about $30 million in prize-money (after $5 million goes to trainers and jockeys) .

Therefore Owners contribute $35 million a year to the operation of racing.

If we add in the cost of purchasing our horses then the figure probably grows to $40 million.

Doesn’t that earn us a big say in the operation of racing?
