Our winner for October was Bob Mckay of Marana Park Thoroughbreds in Naracoorte for his horse Carthy Road. Bob provided us with the following information:
Dear old Carthy Road ( Face Value – High Butterfly by Royal Academy) has certainly paid his way particularly during his latest preparation where he has been very consistent mainly due to his trainer Michael O’Leary. I love to remind Michael of the time this horse ran a shocker at Horsham some years ago and he said the horse had a heart the size of pea. We put a tongue tie on him for his next start and he won easily. I couldn’t wait to tell Michael that Carthy Road now had a heart the size of a pumpkin.
It was great to get the quinella when he just edged out his half sister Lifes A Butterfly ( by Barely a Moment) who has also more than paid her way. Interestingly at the 2013 Mt Gambier cup carnival Carthy Road’s full sister Bojani quinellaed a race with him.
Carthy Road is currently having a short spell and will be set for the Mt Gambier Cup in the Autumn.
Bob’s mare High Butterfly (Royal Academy – Raadscay by Marscay) has been a real winner producer for him with Carthy Road the winner of 7 races and almost $70000, Bojani, his full sister, the winner of 6 including two in Adelaide and nearly $90000 in stakes and the younger half sibling Life’s a Butterfly having won 3 races and $47000. Hopefully for Bob’s sake the mare can keep on producing good honest progeny the likes of these three.
Like Carthy Road Bojani is trained by the canny old master Michael O’Leary while Life’s a Butterfly is with Sue Murphy at Naracoorte.
Keep an eye out for Bob’s horses whenever they race in the South East or if they sneak up to the city for a crack at the big time.
